The City of Sunnyvale offers a wide range of classes and events for teens. We are committed to providing engaging recreational activities that foster skill development and social interaction for the teen community. Here are a few exciting programs that are currently being offered:
Fall Fest
Fall Fest is a musical showcase where high school teens can check out talented local performers and bands. We have incorporated many genres including acoustic, r&b, hip hop, rock, screamo, ska, pop, and even spoken word poetry and comedy. Teens get big concert sound in a very intimate setting, four Saturdays a year at the completely transformed Fair Oaks Park building. Tickets are $4 with flyer, $6 without.
Are you in a band, or know some talented teens that would be interested in performing? We’re always looking for new talent to perform for their peers! Contact us for more information.
Sports Tournaments
Love to shoot hoops with your friends on a Saturday afternoon? Why not get together with other Sunnyvale teens for a little competition? Every year, we host some of the most insanely fun sporting events like Touch Down Get Down (flag football), 3on 3 Basketball Madness, Ultimate Frisbee Competition or the crowd favorite Chuck-n-Duck dodge ball tournament! Events are held at various locations, equipped with a dj, snack bar and are only $3 to enter. Just want to watch? It’s free for spectators! Prizes can be anything from championship sweatshirts, a trophy or $100 gift card!
After School Barbeques
Come grab some grub and hang with your friends at a teen only barbeque! We bring the music and food, all you’ve got to do is show up! For only $1.00 (or FREE with a flyer!) you get a fun filled afternoon, a hotdog, chips and a drink. The Friday afternoon barbeques are typically held four times a year, from 3-6pm at Serra Park, centrally located and within walking distance of both Fremont and Homestead high schools.
Driver’s Education Classes
One of our most popular classes, Driver’s Education is a necessity for anyone on the road (pardon the pun) to getting their license. In partnership with Economic Driving School (#2430), we provide teens with everything they need to receive their California DMV Certificate of Completion of Classroom Driver Education. We offer this course six times a year at an amazing rate of $130 for residents, and $156 for non-residents. Classes are conveniently located at either the Cupertino or Sunnyvale Community Center. Please check our guide or recreation page for upcoming dates and locations.
Want to take the class today? We also offer an online version of the course. Simply log onto www.economicdrivingschool.com/online and when asked how you heard about us, choose activity guide, code 7350.
Volunteer/ Leadership Opportunities
We have many leadership opportunities for teens to engage in their community, based on their interests. If you’d like to plan and organize events for your peers, the Teen Advisory Committee is for you! Do you want to gossip about the latest fashion trends, your favorite songs on the radio or a new coffee shop down the street? The Sunnyvale Web Advisory Group would be the perfect match for you! If you love working with children and want to make their summer one they’ll never forget, apply for the Summer Teen Volunteer program! You’ll earn service credit the fun way, and make a difference too! (Please see links on the left for more detailed descriptions and application process for these opportunities.)
