Recreation Swim

Public recreation swim allows swimmers of all ages the opportunity for casual swimming and water play. Lifeguards are on duty during recreation swim hours. Participants must adhere to all pool rules. Participants must pass our lifeguard issued swim test (see Pool Rules below for swim test requirements), in order to swim in the deep end of the pool.

The City of Sunnyvale offers aquatic programs at four pools throughout the city. Three pools are seasonal and one operates year round (see pool information here). Programs include swimming lessons for all ages, water exercise classes and various American Red Cross courses such as Lifeguard Training and First Aid and CPR.

All pools are heated, and are maintained at a temperature between 78 and 82 degrees F.

Become a Lifeguard and Work at the City Pools

The City of Sunnyvale hires lifeguards and swim instructors on a seasonal basis to staff the city pools. Lifeguard and swim instructor candidates must be at least 16 years of age by the date of hire, and must possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR certification. Please visit the City of Sunnyvale’s job listings for a list of current openings or to apply for a position.

For information on American Red Cross Lifeguard certification courses, please call the Community Center at 408-730-7350.

Rent a City Pool

The City of Sunnyvale has a number of opportunities for pool rentals, with great spaces for swim team practice and other activities where tenants are able to provide their own lifeguards.
