Garage Sales
If you have a garage crammed with everything but your car, hosting a garage sale will help you get rid of that unwanted stuff. The City does not require special permitting for personal garage or yard sales. One day each year, the City hosts a Citywide Garage Sale Day event and offers online and phone-in registration for
free advertising to all residents who wish to participate. Shoppers come from all around the Bay area to shop Sunnyvale's garage sales and tons of useful items are kept in circulation and out of the landfill. Plan to host a garage sale on
September 22, 2012.

Donations
Garage Sale Leftovers ~ There are always left over items from a garage sale. You may wish to hold onto them for another sale, if not, there are other reuse options:
- Sell your items on eBay, Craigslist or through a local marketplace Smartphone app such as EggDrop.
- Give/donate items using the online resource, Sunnyvale Freecycle
- The Recycling Program's Reuse Resource lists a number of secondhand stores and charitable organizations that will accept your donations for resale and reuse.
As a Last Resort ~ The last resort for unacceptable donation items is the landfill. The SMaRT Station hosts Extra Dumping Weekends for Sunnyvale residents four weekends each year for no cost disposal of useless, unwanted items. Single family residents may prefer to use a convenient On-Call Collection appointment and place items at the curb for no-cost collection on their regular garbage service day.
