A. The On-Call Collection program is a special garbage collection service offered to residents of single-family, duplex, triplex and mobile homes. Residents may schedule two, no charge pick ups of non-hazardous material each year, at their convenience, on normal service days. For this special service, residents may put electronic products such as televisions, computer monitors (limit of 4) and other household electronics curbside. In addition, residents may set out up to two cubic yards of extra trash--equivalent to a space six feet long, three feet high and three feet wide--plus two bulky items, such as appliances or furniture.
Q. How do you schedule an on-call collection?
A. To schedule a pick-up appointment, call Utilities Customer Service at (408) 730-7400, (TDD (408) 730-7501) before 2 p.m. the day prior to your service day. Please provide a brief description of items you want to dispose.
Q. Will the extra dumping weekends still be available to residents at the SMaRT Station® in the spring and fall?
A. Yes, residents may still bring items to the SMaRT Station at no additional charge on two designated weekends each spring and fall, as shown on the Annual Calendar.
Q. What should I do if I have extra trash, but not enough to use one of my on-call pick ups?
A. Special family occasions or just cleaning up around the house can generate extra garbage that may not fit in your cart. You may put extra garbage in a plastic garbage bags, apply a $6.00 extra garbage tag to the bag and place it next to your garbage cart. The bag may not exceed 30 pounds and or 35 gallons in capacity.

- $30.42 for 35 gallons
- $37.15 for 65 gallons
- $43.88 for 95 gallons
Q. May I use a 32-gallon can for garbage?
A. Only wheeled garbage carts available from your hauler, Specialty Solid Waste & Recycling, are to be used for garbage. However, there are two other options for 32-gallon can use:
- If you have extra yard trimmings that don't fit in your green yard trimmings cart, you may place the extra material in your old can and place it curbside on your regular collection day next to your yard trimmings cart. On request, Specialty will send you a "Yard Trimmings" sticker for the garbage can to indicate that the can contains yard trimmings.
- If you schedule an on-call collection, you may use your old can for extra garbage as long as its weight does not exceed 70 pounds.
Q. If I want to get rid of my 32-gallon can, what do I do?
A. If you have an extra 32-gallon garbage can you don't want, you may put it next to your garbage cart in the street on your regular collection day with a "Take Can" note attached.
