Coastal Cleanup Day in Sunnyvale

Saturday September 17, 2016
9 a.m. - noon

Recruit your family, friends and co-workers to help and join us in Sunnyvale

Over 850 cleanups will be held throughout California along bays, creeks, rivers, sloughs, highways and the coast.

This year’s event will focus on the Sunnyvale West Channel and the Guadalupe Slough - along the area adjacent to the San Francisco Bay Trail and the Water Pollution Control Plant Oxidation Ponds.

Youth under the age of 18 must have parental approval and anyone age 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. This event may not be suitable for young children due to steep banks in some areas.

To register or receive further information, call (408) 730-7717, TDD (408) 730-7501 or email us.

Properly Dispose of Your Old Medications and Mercury Thermometers

September 21, 2016
10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Sunnyvale Senior Center, Sequoia Room

Do you have medications piling up and need to get rid of them?

Residents can bring their unneeded prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, medicated ointments and creams to this event for proper disposal.  Pill containers are not accepted, place all pills in a sealed zip-locked bag and remover all personal information from ointments, liquids and creams. This program does not accept vitamins, sharps, personal hygiene items, bug spray or household cleaning products.

To avoid breakage and mercury contamination, thermometers must be contained in an unbreakable and closed container such as its original case, a plastic toothbrush holder or a plastic bottle with a screw-on cap. Place the closed container inside a sealed plastic bag. The first 100 residents who turn in old thermometers will receive a free non-mercury thermometer in exchange (limit one per household).

No sign-up required. For more information, call (408) 730-7717, TDD (408) 730-7501 or email us.
