The City of Sunnyvale requires the payment of prevailing wages to workers on City public works projects.  Public works projects include the construction, improvement or demolition of public works, but do not include maintenance or repair services.  Public works are works constructed for the use, protection or enjoyment of the public, including public buildings, streets, drains, sewers, utilities, parks and playgrounds.  

Prevailing wage rates are established through surveys and collection of data by the California Department of Industrial Relations and by the federal Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division.
