Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library

Who are the Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library?

Friends groups are a traditional part of a library's program. They are organized by citizens interested in books and libraries and who want to assist the library in achieving its goals.

The Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library was organized in early 1965 and was incorporated in the Spring of 1967. The Friends supplement the Library's total program by participating in volunteer activities, raising funds and promoting the library in the community.

What do the Friends of the Library do?

Provide the library with a regular volunteer group which performs varied tasks to assist the staff and enrich library service.

Raise funds to purchase special materials and equipment not provided for in the regular budget through a variety of special events including three book sales held annually in spring, summer and fall.

Offer special book-related items for sale.

Assist the library with hospitality activities like Children's Book Week and National Library Week.

Work with and through professional and community associations to inform others about the library.

Assist the library and the Sunnyvale School District in financing the R.I.F. (Reading Is Fundamental) program.

Seek out and promote gifts of local historical material, such as letters, diaries and other ephemera for preservation in the California Room of the Library.

Sponsor speaker luncheons and other library programs. ___________________________

Where do we get donations?

Our main source of book donating is you. We depend upon your donations! Our secondary source is library discards. Books can be put in the depository just inside the library or at the Check Out Desk (get tax receipt here). Arrangements for transfer of large collections, estate donations endowments or bequests can be made by calling the library at (408) 730-7303. More information about donating to the Library.
