“Green” can mean many different things, but most commonly it refers to construction practices, recycling and energy conservation. You will also frequently hear the term “sustainable” when it comes to green practices, meaning the end result does not contribute as a detriment to the environment by neither adding pollutants nor using an excessive amount of resources.

Mercury Fever Thermometer Exchange
As part of Pollution Prevention Week, September 15 – 21, the City of Sunnyvale will host a fever thermometer exchange Friday, September 19 at the Sunnyvale Senior Center. The exchange will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., during the Health and Resources Fair.
Residents exchange their mercury fever thermometer* in order to receive a free
non-mercury fever thermometer in return. To avoid breakage and contamination, mercury fever thermometers must be contained in an unbreakable and closed container such as its original case, a plastic toothbrush holder, or a soda/water bottle with a screw-on cap. As a second measure of protection, the closed container must be placed in a sealable plastic bag (zip-lock is fine). Other mercury-containing products will not be accepted at this event. For more information call Environmental Outreach at (408) 730-7738.
* One thermometer per household.
