FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How can I reach the Bay Trail behind Lockheed?
Carl Road is a trailhead within Sunnyvale for the San Francisco Bay Trail. The City received funding from the Bay Trail Project, Association for Bay Area Governments, and from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space, to extend the Bay Trail an additional mile across a levee owned by Lockheed.  To reach this levee, park at the Carl Road public lot and follow the Bay Trail signs.  There is a handicap parking space, a wheelchair accessible portable toilet and a drinking fountain at the trailhead.

Are jumpers (also called bounce houses or inflatables) allowed at the park?
A permit is required to have a jumper in the park.  Permits are issued in April through October and can be obtained by calling (408)730-7751 between the hours of 1PM and 2PM, Monday-Friday.  A jumper is normally part of a larger picnic reservation.  When you apply for a permit, you will be given a list of approved vendors.  You must provide adult supervision at all times.  Jumpers must be placed on irrigated turf grass.  Parks staff can assist you in finding a location for your jumper.

Is picnicking allowed at the park without reservations?
Eleven family picnic sites have two picnic tables each and are available year around on a first-come first-served basis. The large group sites can be reserved weekends in April and everyday from May to October.

Can I bring jumpers and other equipment into the park without a reservation?
No, equipment and activities such as jumpers and catering are not allowed without a permit.  We issue permits April thru October.
