Model Cars and Airplanes

The Parks and Recreation Department encourages the safe, courteous use of model cars and airplanes throughout the City parks system. Gas-powered cars and planes are not allowed. (Rockets, fireworks and firecrackers are prohibited.)

Where can I operate my models?

Model cars and airplanes are welcome in all of the City's parks so long as they do not pose a hazard to other park visitors or cause damage to park property. Fairwood Park includes an area specifically designed for model cars.

When flying model planes, please coordinate with other participants to avoid dual use of radio frequencies, air space, etc., which could result in damage to equipment or injury to others.

Where can't I operate my models

Model cars and airplanes are prohibited on some school properties (please obey posted signs). Due to the environmental sensitivity of wetland and undeveloped sections of Baylands Park, planes should be flown only at the Great Meadow, the large open lawn north of the picnic sites. There is no entry to the fenced, federally-protected wetlands.

Where can I get more information?

For more information, please call the Parks Division at 730-7506.

Model car and airplane enthusiasts may also wish to contact the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department and/or the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District for their policies.
