Summer Staff

How do we find the best staff for our camps?

• All applicants go through a one-on-one interview process and a hands-on inter-active assessment center
• Background checks are performed on all staff members
• All Site Directors are College age students with experience leading children in a variety of games, crafts etc.
• We ensure a 10:1 ratio (or 8:1 for Lil Ventures)
• All staff are CPR, AED and First Aid trained
• All staff go through an extensive week long in-service training

Camp Coordinators: Camp Coordinators are full-time employees of the City of Sunnyvale’s Parks and Recreation Department. They are responsible for the over-all management of the various camp programs. They are directly responsible for the hiring, training, supervision & evaluation of each staff and camp program.

Camp Directors: Camp Directors provide overall leadership for the program sites. They work with the Site Directors to create the over all camp themes and activity schedule.  They also accompany staff on field trips.

Site Directors: Site Directors provide day to day supervision of the camp site and its staff. They work directly with the Recreation Specialists to plan and lead games, arts & crafts and outdoor activities.

Recreation Specialists: Recreation Specialist are the staff that will work directly with your children. They are responsible for leading the games, arts & crafts projects and outdoor activities on a daily basis. 

Summer Volunteers: Summer volunteers assist the Site Director and Recreation Specialists on a daily basis. The summer volunteers are mostly high school volunteers training for future positions in our Summer Camp programs. It is the responsibility of the Recreation Specialists and Site Directors to mentor each volunteer and help them develop the leadership skills necessary to become a Recreation Specialist.
