Sunnyvale Explorers
Are you between the ages of 14 and 20 and interested in learning about police or fire? Sunnyvale Public Safety Explorer Post 417 may be for you.
A division of the Boy Scouts of America, Post 417 is a non-profit volunteer program for teenagers designed to educate and involve youth in Public Safety activities. The program offers participation in a rewarding and productive service activity, as well as prepares youth for future roles as good citizens and contributing community members.
Explorers receive both police and fire training and learn to respond to emergency scenes, go on ride-alongs and assist Police and Fire personnel in Sunnyvale. They have the opportunity to attend national competitions and leadership training academies. They also assist the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety in community-wide events such as the Air Show, the annual Art and Wine Festival, DUI checkpoints and Auto Extrication seminars.
Explorers meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. Anyone between 14 and 20 years old is welcome to come and check out what the explorers do. We recommend you call before attending a meeting for an update on meeting days.
