Reporting a Parking Violation or Abandoned Vehicle
To report an abandoned or nuisance vehicle, contact the Department of Public Safety, Abandoned/Nuisance Vehicle Hot Line (anonymous line) at 408-730-7706. You may also submit a complaint electronically by clicking on the Abandoned/Nuisance Vehicle Complaint form.

Upon receiving a complaint, a Nuisance Vehicle Inspector (NVI) marks and tags the vehicle for compliance to the Sunnyvale Municipal Code.
The vehicle is rechecked for compliance 72 hours later. If at recheck the vehicle is NOT in compliance and parked on public property, the vehicle may receive a citation and or be towed. If parked on private property and NOT in compliance at recheck, the vehicle may receive a citation and abatement paperwork (to remove vehicle from property) will begin. Paperwork is sent certified mail to the owner of the vehicle and the owner of the property where the vehicle is parked. If there is a legal owner, they also receive abatement paperwork.
Note that this can be a long process, at times taking weeks before the NVI returns to conduct a final re-check for compliance. If at that final check, compliance of the Sunnyvale MC 9.24.180(b) is met, this will end the process and no further action will be taken. Likewise, if compliance is not met the vehicle will be towed, sent to a dismantler, and no longer recoverable.
