Why Was This Law Passed?
Municipal Code 9.24.180(b)-- This Municipal Code was passed to promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the public. Requiring a level of maintenance of private property that will protect the livability, appearance, social and economic stability of the city. This will also protect the public from health and safety hazards and impairment of property values that result from the neglect and deterioration of property. As stated in Sunnyvale Municipal Code 9.24.010 it has been determined that the accumulation and storage of abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or inoperative vehicles on private or public property creates a condition tending to reduce the value of private property. It also promotes blight and deterioration, to invite plundering, to create fire hazards, to constitute an attractive nuisance creating a hazard to the health and the safety of minors, to create a harborage for rodents and insects and to be injurious to the health, safety and general welfare.
