Developing Good Communications with your Children

Good communication between you and your children is the most important way to keep them safe.  A loving relationship creates a climate in which children are not afraid to confide in their parents.

Talk to your children every day and most importantly, take time to listen and observe.  Learn as many details as possible about your children's activities and feelings.  Encourage them to share their feelings.

Start Early- children are taught to cross the street, not to play with matches, about water safety, and cautions about sexual abuse (information on abuse can start as early as age two, but keep it simple).  Your child needs to CHECK FIRST with you before they go ANYWHERE with ANYONE at ANY TIME. Teach this to them as a slogan and have them repeat it.
