The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety hopes that the community enjoys a safe holiday season. Please practice and share the following safety tips year round.
Shopping
¨ Stay alert to your surroundings and the people around you.
¨ Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
¨ Always lock your car doors and roll up windows. Lock packages in trunk.
¨ If your credit cards are lost, stolen or misused, notify the issuers immediately
At Home
¨ Be careful with the use of space heaters, and never use extension cords with them. Never use your stove, oven or BBQ to warm your home
¨ Lock doors and windows even if you’ll only be away for a few minutes.
¨ Do not display gifts in view of windows or doors.
¨ Mount tree in a sturdy base so that children or pets cannot knock it over.
¨ Keep tree green by placing it in wet sand or water.
¨ Never burn wrapping paper.
¨ Do not use you fireplace for disposal of trees.
With Your Friends and Neighbors
¨ Provide non-alcoholic beverage options.
¨ Find alternative transportation for intoxicated guests.
¨ Never drink and drive.
