Wet Weather Driving Tips

California State Law now requires that headlights be turned on when the windshield wipers are activated- it's for your own safety!

RAIN:

  • SLOW DOWN!
  • Drive with headlights on.
  • Avoid standing water and be alert for hydroplaning.
  • Apply brakes slowly.
  • Leave extra distance between you and the vehicle ahead.

FOG:

  • SLOW DOWN!
  • Drive with low headlight beams on [it's illegal to drive with parking lights on.]
  • Avoid unnecessarily crossing traffic lanes.
  • Move away from a stalled or disabled vehicle.
  • If on the highway:
  • Use the white roadway edge marker as a reference.
  • Watch for CHP pace vehicles to guide you through the fog.
  • Don't stop except in emergencies.
