Sunnyvale businesses may choose independent recycling providers to haul away recyclable materials. Material collected for recycling must have been separated by the generator and must be collected for recycling, not disposal. The following information and services are provided by the City of Sunnyvale to assist businesses with starting and improving their recycling programs.

Cardboard Recycling Service
Recycling collection service for corrugated cardboard is available to businesses at no additional charge. Effective July 1, 2007, a rental fee of $8.87 per month, for either a 3 or 6 cubic yard container, will apply. To qualify for this service, the facility must generate at least 200 pounds (about 2 cubic yards) of cardboard each week. Cardboard must be flattened and free of contamination before being placed in the recycling container. Recycling Containers
The City can provide up to 200 desktop recycling containers (at no additional charge) to support your business office paper recycling program. To request container delivery, email the Commercial Recycling Program or call (408) 730-7484.
You can also visit the California Integrated Waste Management Board's (CIWMB) website for a list of recycling container vendors.
The Department of Conservation also offers a Recycling Starter Kit that includes a recycling container for offices and bars/restaurants that want to start a cans & bottles recycling program.
Commercial Recycling Email List
You can receive timely waste reduction and recycling information while reducing paper waste! Information such as how to buy recycled-content office products, available recycling service providers and drop-off facilities, and quarterly editions of Business Recycling Solutions (newsletter) are now being provided to Sunnyvale businesses via email*. Simply email the Commercial Recycling Program with "Subscribe" in your subject line to be added to the email list.
*1-2 emails are generally sent per month.

City staff is available to:
- assist businesses with setting up or improving their waste reduction and recycling program
- conduct waste assessments and provide recommendations
- provide employee presentations and training

Free Signs and Posters
The City can provide the following at no cost:
- Cardboard flyer (11"x17") - Download, print and post/hand out this poster to let employees know how to properly utilize the City's cardboard recycling program.
- Flatten cardboard poster (27"x41") - Contact us to request this poster which asks employees to break down boxes for recycling. English and Spanish text is on one poster.

SMaRT Station® Recycling Center
Businesses may bring many of their recyclables to the SMaRT Station Recycling Center (click for accepted materials and directions). The SMaRT Station is located at 301 Carl Road and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
