As of Feb. 9, 2006, batteries, thermometers, fluorescent bulbs and electronics are prohibited from disposal in the trash. Please visit our Recycling Resources webpage or call the County Hazardous Waste Recycling & Disposal Program at (408) 299-7300 for recycling/disposal options.
Introduction
Hazardous wastes such as lab and photo chemicals, paint, inks, motor oil, solvents and acids may not be disposed of in your garbage dumpster, down the sanitary sewer or storm drain, or on the ground. If disposed of improperly, these materials can pose a danger to public health and can pollute our land, water, and air. In other words, they must be managed separately, safely, and legally.
The County operates a program to provide affordable, convenient, and legal disposal of small quantities of hazardous waste produced by local businesses. Eligibility for this program is based on the amounts and type of business hazardous wastes, rather than on the size of the business.
