Reduce "Junk Mail" to Save Money and Resources
Handling junk mail wastes your staff’s time and therefore company money. One study showed that mailroom staff was spending 25 percent of its time sorting Standard Class advertising mail*. Junk mail is also a waste of our natural resources with over 100 million trees and over 28 billion gallons of water used to produce one year’s worth of this country’s junk mail**. You can help stop this waste by taking action to reduce junk mail at work and at home.
Order or Download a Stop Junk Mail Kit
Get a FREE Stop Junk Mail Kit which includes letter templates to major mailing clearinghouses and other resources for reducing the amount of unsolicited mail received by a business or an individual. Go online, send an email, or call the Santa Clara County Recycling Hotline at 1-800-533-8414 for a Kit.
Set up a System for Handling Junk Mail at Work
There are numerous ways to set up an easy-to-use junk mail reduction system at work. Try these proven methods used by other businesses.
Keep Your Mailing Lists Updated
“Forty-four percent of unsolicited mail is being thrown away unopened and unread,” according to Ljubomir Stambuk, President of Consumer Research Institute in New York. To make sure your direct mail is not part of that 44% being thrown away, give your customers an easy way to contact you and request to be taken off your list. This can also help to save your company money and save natural resources.
The City of Sunnyvale is partnering with over 100 other Bay Area cities and counties to promote the conservation of natural resources through the “Junk Mail Reduction Campaign".
