The City offers composting workshops to its residents so they can learn how to use their own yard trimmings to make compost at home.
Each workshop is led by experienced gardeners and Master Composter volunteers and held one Saturday per month from 10 a.m. to Noon at the City's Orchard Heritage Center multi-purpose building (formerly known as the Arboretum) next to the Sunnyvale Community Center at 550 E. Remington Drive (near El Camino Real).
Registration is requested. Please sign up online or by phone at (408) 730-7262.
Next 2008 Workshop Dates (third Saturday):
May 17 (will be held at the Sunnyvale Library, 665 W. Olive Ave. in May only), June 21, July 19, August 16, September 20, and October 18 |
You can learn how to successfully mix grass clippings, leaves, yard trimmings and kitchen scraps so that they will break down into a dark, nutrient rich soil amendment called compost. You can also learn more about other recycling alternatives and why the City promotes home composting.
A Biostack composting bin with an instruction book is available at a reduced rate ($28) to workshop attendees living in Sunnyvale. That's 69% off the retail value!!
