Become a Compost Volunteer Today!
Compost Program Volunteers are needed to assist the City of Sunnyvale with its Compost Program. Are you interested in recycling and the environment? Do you like working with people and making a difference in someone's life? Become a Compost Program Volunteer today!

Description: Volunteers will assist Sunnyvale's Compost Program by providing support during Sunnyvale's monthly Home Composting Workshops and helping to develop and maintain the program.

Functions:

  • At Workshops: Create, set-up and take down signs and displays; greet and register program participants; serve as cashiers; sell and distribute bins and books; deliver information and provide demonstrations.
  • Program Development and Maintenance: Assist in development of curriculum specific to Sunnyvale; develop posters and visual aids; track program performance; monitor latest compost-related issues.

Qualifications: Interest in recycling and environmental issues. Must be 18 years or older. Comfortable working with public. Cashier or cash handling experience desired. Database experience helpful. Ability to lift some heavy materials. Ability to provide high standard of customer service, professional conduct and civic responsibility.

Training: Compost Education staff will provide training.

Time Commitment: minimum of 6 months

  • At Workshops: Workshops are held the third Saturday of each month, January through October from 10 a.m. to Noon. Occasional planning meetings. Volunteers need to arrive by 9 a.m. to set-up for workshop.
  • Program Development and Maintenance: To be determined.
