Multi-Family Recycling Service

Recycling Service (Owners/Managers & Residents)

Sunnyvale residents living in multi-family properties of four or more housing units have weekly on-site recycling service provided by Specialty Solid Waste and Recycling (the city’s franchised refuse and recycling collection company). The recycling service is one of the services provided with garbage collection and is established when garbage or water service is initiated. For garbage service information, visit the owner/manager or resident "Garbage Service" webpage.

Recycling collection service will be tailored to fit the needs of each property as determined by Specialty Solid Waste & Recycling, the City of Sunnyvale, and homeowners’ associations or apartment managers. For additional information about recycling at your residence, contact Specialty Solid Waste & Recycling at (408) 565-9900, extension 800.

Used Motor Oil and Oil Filter Collection Service

The City of Sunnyvale can provide used motor oil and oil filter collection service on-site if authorized by the property owner/manager of a multi-family complex. Each participating property is provided with a blue, metal oil recycling box containing individual one-gallon plastic jugs for used motor oil and heavy-duty zip-sealed plastic bags for oil filters. To prevent oil spills, residents need to seal the oil filter bag completely and tightly fasten the screw-cap on the oil jug before placing it in the oil recycling box for collection.

If your multi-family complex is already participating in Sunnyvale's on-site motor oil and oil filter recycling program, click on our Muli-family Oil Recycling Brochure (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view) for information on how to properly participate.

If you're not sure if your complex is participating in the program or if you would like to request additional plastic jugs and zip-sealed plastic bags, contact the City of Sunnyvale Revenue Division at (408) 730-7400.

Sunnyvale residents can also bring used motor oil to the SMaRT Station Recycling Center at no charge or drop it off at any certified collection center.
