Birding Tours
There is some wonderful wildlife out by the SMaRT Station. The City has collaborated with the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society to offer free one-hour bird-watching tours at Sunnyvale's closed landfill. Previous sightings include great blue herons, red-tailed hawks, great egrets, mallards, pelicans and red-winged black birds.
Interested parties should meet at noon on the first Wednesday of the month at 1444 Borregas Avenue, north of Caribbean Drive, in Sunnyvale. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring binoculars; a limited number of loaner binoculars are available for the tour. Protection from the sun - a hat and sunglasses - is also recommended.
Tours will be cancelled in the event of rain. Because of limited parking, birders are encouraged to carpool to the tours. For additional information, please call Silviana Ruiz at (408) 730-7545 or send an email.
