Update: The Zero Waste Policy was adopted by Council on December 9, 2008. The next steps are to conduct a waste characterization study and develop a strategic plan based on study results. Stay tuned as we proceed.
Zero Waste is a goal which requires the designing and managing of products and processes to reduce the volume and toxicity of waste and materials and to conserve and recover all resources. In the 2008 study issue process, Council ranked the Zero Waste study issue fourth for the Public Works Department. Therefore, Sunnyvale’s City Council will be considering Zero Waste policy options this year.
