Borregas Avenue Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridges |
|
The project consists of two bicycle/pedestrian bridges on Borregas Avenue, one over highway US 101 and the other over highway SR 237. The bridges will ramp up along the local frontage road, cross perpendicular to the freeway, then ramp down along the local frontage road on the opposite side of the freeway. The project will also require the removal of a total of 39 on-street parking spaces along Persian Drive, Weddell Drive and Ahwanee Drive.
The purpose of the proposed project is to provide safe and convenient bicycle and pedestrian movements between north and central Sunnyvale . The proposed project would increase the safety for bicyclists and pedestrians by providing a safe alternative to Mathilda Ave and Fair Oaks Ave corridors, which have high traffic volumes, high speeds and no designated bike lanes. The proposed project would serve to enhance the convenience of bicyclists and pedestrians by providing a connection between residential area, transit terminals, major employment areas, recreational facilities, and trails.
