Step 1 - Complaint
Complaint of violation(s) reported by public, Neighborhood Preservation staff, or other City staff.
Step 2 - Inspection
Violation is verified by field inspection, typically within three days of receiving the complaint.
Step 3 - Courtesy Notice
A yellow tri-fold notice is given to the property owner giving a brief description of Sunnyvale Municipal Code violation(s) and a compliance deadline.
Step 4 - Compliance Letter/Warning Letter
A letter is given to the property owner explaining the violation(s) and a final compliance deadline.
Step 5 - Administrative Action
Issued to property owners who fail to meet the required compliance deadline.

Administrative Citation - $100 for the first violation, $200 for the second violation occurring within a 12 month period and $500 for the third and any subsequent violations occurring within a 12 month period. Pursuant to Sunnyvale Municipal Code 1.05.110, unpaid citations may be added to your property tax bill.

Notice to Abate Unsafe or Unlawful Conditions – City staff and their agents replace, remove, or repair existing violation(s) at the property owner’s expense
