How can I dispose of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)?
Sunnyvale residentsdo not need an appointment to dispose of their HHW. They may dispose of it at a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Drop Off Event. Events are held every third Saturday of the month (except December), from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., 164 Carl Road, Sunnyvale. Call the Recycling Program at (408) 730-7262 for details. Santa Clara County residents and businesses must make an appointment to attend the HHW events. To make an appointment or locate alternate drop-off sites, contact the Santa Clara County HHW Program at (408) 299-7300.

Specialty Solid Waste & Recycling, the City’s franchised hauler, is the sole provider for, debris boxes for residential projects. To order a debris box, contact Sunnyvale Commercial Utilities at (408) 730-7681. Contractors or customers without an existing Sunnyvale utilities account may call Specialty Solid Waste & Recycling directly at (408) 565-9900.

Where can I dispose of trash and recyclable materials?
Trash and recyclable materials may be dropped off daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the SMaRT Station® at 301 Carl Road, Sunnyvale. The SMaRT Station® is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

Many electronics contain hazardous materials and must not be disposed as garbage. Sunnyvale residents may dispose electronics, at no cost, at the SMaRT Station® from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days per week. Businesses should contact the Commercial Recycling Specialist at (408) 730-7484.

Please call the Consumer Protection Division of the County Environmental Health Department at 408-918 3400. This agency inspects swimming pools and spas at apartments, condominiums, hotels and motels, health clubs, schools, community associations, commercial buildings, trailer and mobile home parks, clubs, campgrounds, and water theme parks. (They do not inspect private pools or spas maintained by individuals for the use of family and friends).
