How can I dispose of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)?

Do not place hazardous waste or electronics in your garbage, recycling or yard waste carts.  

Sunnyvale partners with the County of Santa Clara Household Hazardous Waste Program and offers periodic drop-off events at no charge to residents. Make an appointment at HHW.org or by calling (408) 299-7300.

How can I order a debris box for my remodeling/demolition projects?

Specialty Solid Waste & Recycling, the City’s franchised hauler, is the sole provider for, debris boxes for residential projects. To order a debris box, contact Sunnyvale Commercial Utilities at (408) 730-7400. Contractors or customers without an existing Sunnyvale utilities account may call Specialty Solid Waste & Recycling directly at (408) 565-9900.

Where can I dispose of trash and recyclable materials?

Trash and recyclable materials may be dropped off daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the SMaRT Station® at 301 Carl Road, Sunnyvale. The SMaRT Station® is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

How much does it cost to drop off materials at the SMaRT Station?

Trash is disposed for a fee at a per cubic yard rate and material-type basis. Recyclable materials may be dropped off at no charge.

How can I dispose of a television, monitor or other small household electronics?

Many electronics contain hazardous materials and must not be disposed as garbage.  Sunnyvale residents may dispose electronics, at no cost, at the SMaRT Station® from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days per week. Businesses should contact the Commercial Recycling Specialist at (408) 730-7484.

Most issues pertaining to trees on private property do not constitute a violation of the Sunnyvale Municipal Code but rather are a private civil matter. If you have not already done so, please consider discussing your concerns with your neighbor.

We provide this service 24 hours, 7 days per week.  Please call 408-730-7400 approximately one hour before you require the water service to be turned off.  Please provide your name, address and daytime telephone number.  When calling after regular business hours, your call will be directed to the emergency answer point so that a technician can be dispatched to your location.

How do I report an illegal discharge/dumping into the street or storm drain?

To report non-emergency discharges or dumping of non-hazardous materials into storm drains, call (408) 730-7270, TDD (408) 730-7501 from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, call (408) 730-7181, or e-mail the information to the WPCP.

For emergency reports of hazardous spills or dumping into storm drains, call 9-1-1 or (408) 736-6244.

Please call the Consumer Protection Division of the County Environmental Health Department at 408-918 3400.  This agency inspects swimming pools and spas at apartments, condominiums, hotels and motels, health clubs, schools, community associations, commercial buildings, trailer and mobile home parks, clubs, campgrounds, and water theme parks.  (They do not inspect private pools or spas maintained by individuals for the use of family and friends).
