Popular Magazines

ZinioZinio gives Sunnyvale Library customers the ability to checkout and download digital versions of print magazines for free. Examples include Cosmopolitan, The Economist, Elle, Macworld, O Magazine, Popular Science, and more!

How to access: You will need to create two accounts - one is a Zinio for Libraries account which lets you check out digital magazines from the Library collection. The other is a Zinio.com account which allows you to read digital magazines in your web browser or app. To get started, visit Zinio for Libraries, click on "Create New Account" in the upper right corner and enter your 14-digit Sunnyvale Library card number. Follow the prompts to enter your first name, last name, email address, and password, then click "Create Account." If you already created an account, click "Login" in the upper right corner instead. Then, select a magazine to checkout and click "Checkout." You will be prompted to start reading and asked to create your Zinio.com account. Visit the Zinio help website for assistance.

Flipster*NEW!* Flipster allows you to stream popular digital magazines online on a computer or download them to a smartphone or tablet using the mobile app for offline reading. Titles include Entertainment Weekly, Mental Floss, Newsweek, People Magazine, Sports Illustrated and much more.

How to access: Visit Flipster, enter your 14-digit Sunnyvale Library card number and begin browsing available magazines. Click on the magazine cover and enjoy.

If you would like to read a Flipster magazine on your iOS or Android mobile device or tablet, you will need to visit your App store, download the Flipster app and follow the instructions at Flipster's help website.

Streaming Movies, TV, Music, and More

HooplaWatch free popular streaming movies and TV shows and listen to music and audiobooks with hoopla. View or listen online or download the free app for your Android or iOS device and watch anytime.

How to access: Visit hoopla's website. New users must click "Sign Up" and create a new account. Click "Continue," then click "Sunnyvale Public Library." Type your 14-digit library card number and click "Continue." Type a valid email address twice, and type a password twice. Click "Continue." Returning users click "Log In" and provide an email address and password. Visit hoopla's support page for assistance.b

LearningExpress Library*NEW!* LearningExpress Library is a comprehensive, online database of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help students and adults succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass. The benefits include immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of your results. The following tests are included: college and graduate placement tests (ACT, SAT, GRE, MCAD, LSAT), elementary and high school tests (Advanced Placement; High School, Middle School, and Elementary School Skills), career preparation exams (GED, EMS, Firefighter, PPST - Praxis, Civil Service, and reading, math and writing skills practice), TOEFL and U.S. Citizenship Exams.

How to access: Visit the LearningExpress Library site. Click "Register" in the top right corner to create a new free account using your name, email address, and a password of your choosing. When using LearningExpress Library again, click "Login" in the top right corner and enter your email address and password.

*NEW!* Lynda.com is an online educational site that includes over 3,000 courses (and over 130,000 videos) in popular fields like web design, web development, IT, education/instruction, media production, and business. Experts create and deliver all courses as well as provide supplemental materials like exercise files and relevant work samples. For access to multimedia software, like Photoshop, the Library offers the Multimedia Designer's Laptop for Library Use!

How to access: Visit lynda.com, enter your 14-digit Sunnyvale Library card number and PIN and click "Log in." Complete your lynda.com profile with your name and email address and click "Save."

Novelist Plus*NEW!* Wondering what to read next? Use NoveList Plus to find reading recommendations based on books you already read and loved. Visit NoveList Plus directly and type the name of your last favorite book or an author whose books you like. NoveList Plus will recommend books and authors similar to your favorites.

You may also access NoveList Plus selections directly from the Library's catalog page. If you wish to start with the Library's catalog, enter the title of a book you enjoyed in the catalog search box on our home page. For example, type The Girl on the Train. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see reading recommendations, reviews and other recommended lists. If the book is part of a series, NoveList Plus will give you the order. This is especially good for long series like Outlander.

How to access: Click on NoveList Plus, and if you are at home, enter your 14-digit Sunnyvale Library card number. If you are accessing NoveList Plus in the Library, you will skip this step. For guidance using this resource, visit the help page at the top right corner of NoveList Plus.

Free Practice Driving Tests
Driver Education - In partnership with Driving-Tests.org, Sunnyvale Public Library is proud to offer FREE California Driver Permit practice tests. The tests cover both automobile and motorcycle, and the site contains the Driver Handbook for each. Practice at the library, at home, or on the go using the free app or mobile-friendly site.

Taxes and Laws



Neither Federal (Internal Revenue Service) nor California (Franchise Tax Board) tax forms are mailed automatically to individual homes.  Please note that the Library does not carry any paper forms to take away.  Reproducible copies of the most common forms and tax tables are available for photocopying, or we can assist you with printing other forms on our public access computers.  Printing and photocopying in the Library costs $0.15 per page.
