Teddy Roosevelt: A Model of Presidential Leadership for Modern Times: 7 p.m., Sunnyvale Public Library, 665 W. Olive. Lecturer Dave Rader will speak and lead a discussion on Theodore Roosevelt, the twenty-sixth President of the United States. Roosevelt is often considered the first “modern president.” More than any other president, or individual American, he is responsible for America’s rise to world power status. - On Stage - Baguette Quartette: 8 p.m., Sunnyvale Theatre, 550 E. Remington Dr., Sunnyvale 94087. Ticket Prices: $25 general admission, $20 students and seniors. Sunnyvale Theatre presents Baguette Quartette, modeled after 1940s Parisian café bands. Accordionist and music scholar Odile Lavault leads this period band in re-creating popular French songs of the decades between World Wars. Musette, an amalgamation of French folk music and Gypsy swing which flourished in rough-and-tumble Paris dance halls, is the group’s specialty. Their repertoire includes foxtrots, paso dobles, tangos, mazurka-like javas and “realistic songs,” sentimental ballads depicting the lives of tragic heroines. This is the fifth performance in Sunnyvale’s 2007-08 Evenings of Cultural Arts Series. - 23rd Annual Freedom Train. The Freedom Train is scheduled to depart the San Jose Diridon Caltrain Station at 10:00 a.m., with stops to pick up passengers at Sunnyvale, Palo Alto and San Mateo, before discharging its approximately 1,600 passengers in San Francisco. From the San Francisco Caltrain Station at Fourth and King streets, participants can join the march to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at the Civic Center or take one of the buses that will be provided. If Freedom Train tickets are sold out, people can buy a regular Caltrain ticket and take any regularly scheduled northbound train to join the festivities in San Francisco.
