- Star Spangled Sunnyvale - Community Picnic at Baylands Parks: 12 p.m. - 2 p.m., 999 Caribbean Drive. The Department of Parks & Recreation invites you to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a good old fashioned picnic at Baylands park. On this day, all picnic sites will be free and available on a first come, first served basis and parking is free for Sunnyvale residents with valid ID, a savings of $5. The park opens at 8 a.m. and closes one and a half hours after sunset. All group picnic sites have extra-large barbecue grills, electricity and water, layout tables, shade structures, and cans & bottles recycling containers. Play structures and restrooms are nearby. Between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., Rock Lerum, a veteran performer at the Hands On the Arts Festival, will be roving the picnic areas as a stilt walker and juggler; The Sunnyvale Parks and Recreation Fun on the Run vehicle will also be onsite to provide free games and activities for elementary school-aged children. To protect wildlife, pets are not allowed in the park. The event is sponsored by the City of Sunnyvale Parks and Recreation Department. For more information call (408) 730-7751.
