Part of the 2007-08 Evenings of Cultural Arts series, this group evokes smoky Bucharest cafes and caravan-ringed campfires with its lively blend, including Balkan and Swedish folk, flamenco and Gypsy jazz. These gifted “misfit” musicians whose affinity for gypsy music brought them together first to jam at an Oakland performance space called The Fishtank, then for a single concert, now record and tour extensively. French Fiddler Fabrice Martinez, who spent years collecting and playing folk music while traveling Europe in a mule-drawn caravan, was the group’s catalyst. But each member, playing on instruments as diverse as the saw, Japanese shamisen and slap bass, adds something special. Ticket Prices: $25 general admission, $20 students and seniors with ID. Season ticket packages start at $68. Group sales discounts will also be available. To request more information, please contact Sunnyvale Theatre at (408) 733-6611.
