PARTNERING FOR THE FUTURE—REGIONAL GROUNDHOG JOB SHADOW DAY IS JANUARY 31, 2003
Sunnyvale, CA (1/2/03) -- Think back to your teenage years – how did you learn about future careers? Did you feel prepared for the scary task of making a career choice?
You can help to prepare the workforce of the future—our youth – by exposing them to the careers of the future. The NOVA Youth Employment Office is partnering with Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay to sponsor Groundhog Job Shadow Day in our region. Job Shadow Day begins on January 31, 2003. Students will “shadow” workplace mentors as they go through a normal day on the job. Shadowing will help students better understand the critical link between school and career, allowing for more knowledgeable educational and career choices.
Last year, companies such as Agilent, Aspect, San Jose Mercury News, NASDAQ, Stanford Medical Center, Intuit, Veritas, the Westin Hotel and many others participated in Groundhog Job Shadow Day. More than 2,500 local students participated, along with more than 70 local sponsor companies!
Would you like to host students on-site at your company to make this year’s event even more successful? To help students experience the world of work and learn career options, please contact NOVA at (408) 522-9848 or Junior Achievement at (408) 988-8915 x203, or email your interest to jobshadow@novaworks.org. If your company prefers to host students on an alternate date, we will coordinate your company’s schedule with the schools. To accommodate both businesses and the schools involved, please respond by January 15, 2003. The NOVA Youth Employment Office and Junior Achievement look forward to partnering with your business in contributing to the workforce of the future!
