SUNNYVALE NURSERY DONATES POTTING MIX FOR NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Sunnyvale Nursery is helping Sunnyvale’s youth get their hands dirty. Owner Vincent Castagnolo, Jr., has offered to donate bags of mulch and potting soil for a National Youth Service Day project being hosted by several Sunnyvale City departments and the Columbia Middle School on Saturday, April 12.
From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., youth teams from around Sunnyvale will plant rose bushes, install ground cover and fix up the school site and park at Columbia. Columbia’s principal, Larry Curb, was able to obtain the roses and other plants the project needed, but was short five bags of potting soil and five bags of mulch. After a quick call to the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce, the project coordinators were referred to the Sunnyvale Nursery and Castagnolo, who agreed to donate the much-needed dirt.
National Youth Service Day is part of a national initiative sponsored by Parade magazine and AT&T. Local sponsors include Sunnyvale’s Volunteer Program, the Youth & Family Services Program and the Department of Parks and Recreation. Columbia Middle School is located at 739 Morse Avenue in Sunnyvale.
