SUNNYVALE TO OPEN SKATEPARK
Facility considered one of the best in Northern California

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Skateboarders will have a new home in Sunnyvale as the City opens its new skatepark on Saturday, May 3.

The 18,500 square foot facility includes areas for both bowl/vertical and street course varieties of skating. Many of those who have reviewed the design consider this to be the finest public skatepark in Northern California.

"We have always felt the importance of providing City recreational facilities that meet the needs of our community," said Sunnyvale Mayor Julia Miller. "That’s why our City Council recommended construction of this park and why we are particularly pleased to see the project open to an eager public."

The skatepark is located at Fair Oaks Park, 540 Fair Oaks Ave., in Sunnyvale, and will be open every day, 7 a.m. to sunset. Use of the skatepark is similar to other park features: it is unsupervised and is used at the participant’s own risk. Skaters are required to wear a helmet, elbow and knee pads.

The City of Sunnyvale will open the skatepark with a ribbon cutting event beginning at 11 a.m., May 3. Mayor Miller and others will celebrate the opening with live music, food, skating and professional skating demonstrations.

More information about the celebration and the skatepark is available at the Sunnyvale Web site at www.ci.sunnyvale.ca.us and following the links to the Community Calendar. Information is also available by calling the Parks Division at (408) 730-7506.
