SUNNYVALE TOWN CENTER MALL PARKING GARAGE UPPER DECK TO CLOSE

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The upper deck of the Sunnyvale Town Center Mall will close soon due to its deteriorating condition. The lower level of the structure will remain open and available to the public.

The parking structure is jointly owned by the Town Center Mall and the City of Sunnyvale. Once the upper deck is closed, approximately 1,200 parking spaces will remain available on the lower level.

Engineers have monitored the parking structure for a number of years and they have noted the garage is reaching the end of its useful life. While no immediate danger has been cited in the garage’s condition, there is concern over the continued stress to the structure posed by vehicles on the upper deck.

The City of Sunnyvale is meeting with mall property owners to develop and implement a closure plan. Pedestrian stairs, bridges and walkways will all remain open to provide exits from the mall and major stores.
