NOVA TO HOST COMMUNITY FORUM ON INFORMATION SECURITY

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Businesses, job seekers, information technology professionals and members of the general public are invited to attend a workforce development forum on technology security, presented by NOVA, a federally funded employment and training agency, administered by the City of Sunnyvale. The workshop will be held at the Quinlan Community Center at 10185 N. Stelling Road in Cupertino on June 5. Local technology professionals from throughout the technology security field will discuss market and employment trends, training and skill requirements, and transformations of the industry.

Using panel discussions, question-and-answer sessions and multiple networking opportunities, the forum will examine such issues as what constitutes a cyber threat, who defends against these threats, and what training is required for a technology security worker. The forum will also review the latest trends in information security, threats that create the demand for technology security products, the state of the job market in information security and projections on future trends as identified by industry experts. The forum runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Those interested in attending are asked to R.S.V.P. by calling (408) 730-7835 or by e-mailing rsvp@novaworks.org.

Attendees will receive a copy of NOVA’s latest in-depth industry report, Access Granted: Decrypting Opportunities in Information Security. Among other important matters, the report highlights various certifications that IT professionals can obtain for career mobility and flexibility in information security careers, or to gain a competitive edge over others in the hiring process.

The information security forum is presented by the NOVA Workforce Board, a public-private partnership serving local job seekers, employers and the education and training community. The Access Granted report is the latest in a series of detailed, qualitative examinations of growing and emerging industries. NOVA’s Workforce Publications team has also studied the health care industry, education, bio-science, digital media, hospitality and other industries, utilizing field research and an ethnographic approach that reveals local workforce issues, realities and trends that affect the community. For more information about NOVA or its workforce publications, please call the CONNECT! Business Service Center at (408) 730-7830 or visit NOVA's Web site at www.novaworks.org.
