Sunnyvale to Participate in 2003 Walk to School Day
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The City of Sunnyvale will join with local schools – and people across the world – to participate in Walk to School Day on Wednesday,
October 8, 2003. The goal of the international event is to help children and adults stay active and to highlight the need for communities to keep their streets safe for pedestrians and bicyclists.
For the third year, the City is taking an active role in the event. Sunnyvale’s Transportation and Traffic Division and the Department of Public Safety are working with many Sunnyvale area schools to provide activities and giveaways for people who walk and bike to school.
“Walk to School Day is a perfect opportunity for families to spend a little extra time with their children, stay healthy and help improve air quality,” said Sunnyvale Mayor Julia Miller. “I encourage everyone in our community to get out, walk and celebrate the day.”
More information on Sunnyvale’s Walk to School Day is available at participating schools and on the City’s Web site at www.ci.sunnyvale.ca.us, or by contacting Transportation Planner Dieckmann Cogill at (408) 730-2713 or dcogill@ci.sunnyvale.ca.us. For TDD, call (408) 730-7501.
