SUNNYVALE SCHEDULES COMMUNITY OUTREACH MEETING

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The City of Sunnyvale has scheduled a community meeting to discuss the Mathilda Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation project. This project involves widening and modifying the Mathilda Avenue Bridge over Evelyn Avenue and the Caltrain right-of-way to address deficiencies identified by Caltrans.

Caltrans inspects bridges statewide on a biennial basis and has found the current bridge design does not meet several standards. These deficiencies include a failure to meet bridge pier clearance standards, acceleration lane design standards, shoulder width standards and bridge railing standards.

The community meeting will present new conceptual alternatives for the bridge rehabilitation. Among the concepts to be presented are designs that would exit downtown traffic from southbound Mathilda Avenue onto westbound Evelyn Avenue and then return that traffic eastbound toward downtown via a roundabout intersection on Evelyn Avenue.

City staff will be present at the community outreach meeting to receive public comment on the project. The meeting is scheduled on:

  • Monday, September 29
    7 p.m.
    Murphy Park Building
    236 North Sunnyvale Ave.
    Sunnyvale

The public is invited to attend this meeting and provide comments. If you are unable to attend the meeting and wish to comment on the project, please send your comments to the City of Sunnyvale Division of Transportation and Traffic, P. O. Box 3707, Sunnyvale, CA 94088-3707. Or, you may contact Jack Witthaus, Transportation and Traffic Manager, via e-mail at jwitthaus@ci.sunnyvale.ca.us or by calling (408) 730-7330.
