SUNNYVALE MAYOR APPOINTED TO SALT POND RESTORATION COMMITTEE
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Continuing a theme of addressing environmental concerns, Sunnyvale Mayor Julia Miller has accepted an appointment to a stakeholder forum on salt pond restoration in the Bay Area. The group will provide feedback and recommendations to the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project Partners and Project Management Team.
"This is a tremendous opportunity to help restore the health of the San Francisco Bay," said Mayor Miller. "This effort benefits everyone – from the fish and wildlife that live in the Bay to the people who live in the Bay Area."
The 25-square mile project, managed collaboratively by the California State Coastal Conservancy, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Game, is designed to transform 16,500 acres of salt ponds to tidal marshland. The project stretches from the San Mateo Bridge to the southern edge of the San Francisco Bay, including Sunnyvale.
