SUNNYVALE PUBLIC WORKS ASKS RESIDENTS TO BAG THEIR LEAVES

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – As fall gives way to winter and leaves begin to accumulate on Sunnyvale streets, many residents are trying to help keep the streets clear by raking the leaves into piles on the street. However, piling leaves in the street actually makes it more difficult for street sweepers to do their job. The Sunnyvale Department of Public Works is asking residents to bag the leaves instead, or to put them in their yard waste disposal bins. This will keep the leaves off the street without impeding the work of the street sweepers. Keeping the streets clear will also reduce the amount of yard waste that goes into the City’s storm drains, decreasing the potential for back-ups and flooding.

Residents with unlimited service waste disposal accounts may leave extra bags beside their bins to be collected. Pick-ups for residents without the unlimited service option are limited to the capacity of the bins.
