SUNNYVALE PUBLIC SAFETY TEAMS UP WITH CHEVYS TO SUPPORT SPECIAL OLYMPICS

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Special Olympics athletes hold a special place in the hearts of Sunnyvale’s public safety officers, who continue a tradition of support for the Special Olympics program. Members of Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety will trade their handcuffs for serving trays on Thursday, April 8, volunteering as "celebrity waiters" for a "Tip-a-Cop" fundraiser at Chevys in Sunnyvale.

From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., officers and Special Olympians will work alongside restaurant staff, serving water and coffee and acting as hosts. All tips received by the guest servers will be donated to Special Olympics Northern California. Chevys will also donate 20 percent of the evening’s proceeds to the organization.

The Department of Public Safety raised more than $2,000 for Special Olympics during two Tip-a-Cop fundraisers in 2003, in addition to the money raised through the Special Olympics Torch Run and Power Pull fundraisers.

Chevys is located at 204 South Mathilda Ave in Sunnyvale. More information on Special Olympics Northern California is available at their Web site, www.sonc.org.
