SUNNYVALE ANNOUNCES ‘EXCELLENCE IN EARLY EDUCATION’ WINNERS

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Four winners have been announced in Sunnyvale’s Award for Excellence in Early Education program.

The honorees are:

  • Family Child Care Provider: Bonnie Hasson, owner, Bonnie’s House Play School
  • Child Care Center: Cumberland Child Development Center
  • Preschool: Appleseed Montessori, Warner Campus
  • Teacher: Lynda Brown, Appleseed Montessori, Dunford Campus

The award program, which is run by the Sunnyvale Child Care Advisory Board, recognizes outstanding early education experiences for children as provided by child care centers, preschools, licensed family care providers and teachers in Sunnyvale.

More than 125 family child care providers and more than 40 child care centers operate in Sunnyvale. Award nominations were sought form the community at large and nearly two dozen nominations were submitted.

According to Child Care Program manager Kristen Nigriny, “the awards underscore the importance of high-quality early education in a child’s social, physical, emotional and intellectual development. Excellent early education builds the foundation for a child’s future success.”

Sunnyvale Mayor John Howe enthusiastically supports the program. “Sunnyvale’s Child Care Resources program has taken a leadership role in ensuring that child care needs in Sunnyvale are identified and addressed in the most efficient and effective way. We actively work to ensure the availability of accessible, affordable, high-quality child care services.”
