SUNNYVALE CITY COUNCIL APPOINTS NEW COMMISSIONERS
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The Sunnyvale City Council has appointed 24 people to fill openings on the City’s 11 boards and commissions.
”Citizen involvement is essential, especially in local government,” said Mayor John Howe. “I look forward to working with these commissioners as they begin serving our community.”
The two dozen board members and commissioners reflect a diverse cross-section of the Sunnyvale community, and include both first-time and returning members.
Nancy McDonough, already serving on the Advisory Council to the Council on Aging, was reappointed to a term expiring in 2007.
On the Arts Commission, Robert Obrey was appointed to a term expiring in 2008.
Three new commissioners – Farah Desai, Ralph Durham and Virginia Runion – were added to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. Their terms all expire in 2008.
Ted Faravelli was reappointed to the Board of Building Code Appeals, while Pat Meyering is a new appointee to that board. Both terms expire in 2008.
James Griffith and Kathleen Meagher were appointed to the Board of Library Trustees until 2008.
The Child Care Advisory Board had three new appointees: Angela Carmack, Jacqueline Sell and Maxine Shea. All three have terms expiring in 2008
Rose Kausek was appointed for the first time to the Heritage Preservation Commission, while Dawn Hopkins was reappointed to that commission. Both terms expire in 2008.
Four seats were filled on the Housing and Human Services Commission, with James Callan and Jana Seshadri appointed to terms ending in 2008, Timothy Persyn to a term ending in 2007, and Prabhakar Tenneti to a term ending in 2005.
The Parks and Recreation Commission received two new members. Howard Chuck was appointed to a term ending in 2008, while Robert Locke was appointed to sit on the commission until 2006.
Two board members are returning to the Personnel Board. Karen Bushman fills an employee-nominated seat on the board, while Ericka Reguerin fills a Council-nominated seat. Both will serve until 2008.
Finally, Laura Babcock and David Simons were reappointed to the Planning Commission to terms ending in 2008.
Three commissions still have one seat open apiece: the Heritage Commission, with a term ending in 2007; the Child Care Advisory Board, with a term ending in 2008; and the Board of Building Code Appeals, with a term ending in 2007.
Boards and commissions advise the City Council on policy issues and are appointed by the Council. Terms for the new board members and commissioners begin July 1, 2004.
