SUNNYVALE PUBLIC SAFETY CHIEF ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Director Irwin “Ernie” Bakin has announced his retirement from the City, effective August 8, 2004. Bakin had been on leave for a work-related injury since December 2003.
Bob Bradshaw, who has served as acting director since June 1, will continue in that role while Sunnyvale begins recruitment for a new director.
Sunnyvale, the second largest city in Santa Clara County, has consistently ranked as one of the ten safest cities in the nation. The City uses an innovative approach to public safety that combines both police and fire services into a single department, resulting in both cost and operational efficiencies.
