SUNNYVALE APPOINTS NEW INTERIM PUBLIC SAFETY CHIEF
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The City of Sunnyvale has appointed Pat Dwyer Interim Director of the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Dwyer assumed the role August 30.
Dwyer, a resident of Gilroy, has more than 30 years of police experience in the San Francisco Bay Area, having served as chief of police in Palo Alto and as interim chief for the City of Hayward. Dwyer began as a police officer with the City of San Jose in 1969, rising to the rank of captain before moving to Palo Alto.
In addition to his many years of public safety experience, Dwyer is a graduate of San Jose State University, the California Law Enforcement Command College and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Course.
“It is a privilege to welcome Pat to the City of Sunnyvale,” said City Manager Amy Chan. “His experience in public safety and his understanding of this region make him exceptionally qualified to fill the role of Interim Public Safety Director.”
The City is actively recruiting a permanent replacement for former DPS Director Ernie Bakin, who retired in August.
