SUNNYVALE MARKS SEPTEMBER 11

SUNNYVALE, Calif.Calling it a “great day of national tragedy,” Sunnyvale Mayor John Howe has issued a mayoral proclamation marking September 11 as “Patriots’ Day – A Day of Remembrance.” Howe’s proclamation cited the nearly 3,000 lives lost on that day, including the nearly 450 emergency responders whom Howe referred to as “our brethren in government service.”

Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) personnel will pay tribute to Patriots’ Day by parking fire apparatus in front of their stations with public safety officers standing at attention at 8:46 a.m., marking the time the first airplane impacted the World Trade Center. Sunnyvale City government offices will display the American flag at half-staff for the day, and public safety officers will wear a black band across their badges, a traditional sign of loss.
