SUNNYVALE NAMES ACTING CITY ATTORNEY

SUNNYVALE, Calif.Moving swiftly to fill a potential gap, the Sunnyvale City Council has named Senior Assistant City Attorney Joan Borger to take over the city attorney’s office. The announcement came following a special City Council meeting Wednesday, October 6.

Borger will become the Acting City Attorney on October 15, the day City Attorney Valerie Armento is expected to resign as city attorney.

“The City Council and I have the utmost confidence in Joan and her abilities,” said Mayor John Howe in making the announcement. “Joan’s experience and service in the City of Sunnyvale will ensure continuity in the services provided by the office.”

The city attorney provides legal advice to staff in preparing Reports to Council and in administering City services; renders opinions upon request of the City Council or City departments; drafts ordinances, resolutions, agreements, affidavits and other legal papers; represents the City as counsel in civil cases; and initiates and prosecutes legal proceedings on behalf of the City.
