SUNNYVALE RECOGNIZES 146 CITY EMPLOYEES

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – One hundred forty-six Sunnyvale City employees were honored in Thursday morning (October 7, 2004) ceremonies for their length of service to the City.

Topping the list were John Gienger, Byron Pipkin and Martin Zankick, each of whom have completed 30 years of service. Gienger and Pipkin both work in the Department of Public Safety, while Zankick is in the Public Works Department.

Speaking to the large audience at the event, Mayor John Howe observed “It takes an extraordinary person to devote a career to public service … and these employees have provided a combined total of more than 2,000 years of service to Sunnyvale – a remarkable achievement for a city just 91 years old. “Through your long and devoted service” said Mayor Howe, “you have shown an exceptional loyalty and commitment to the goals and ideals of the City of Sunnyvale.”

Among those honored for their long service to Sunnyvale were two department directors: Marvin Rose, who directs the Department of Public Works and has completed 15 years of service, and Information Technology Director
Shawn Hernandez, who has completed a decade of service.
