Firoozeh Dumas to Discuss Her Book Funny in Farsi

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The  American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Sunnyvale Public Library will present author Firoozeh Dumas,  who will discuss her book Funny in Farsi. Everyone is welcome to this free event which will be held Thursday, January 13, at 7 p.m. in the Program Room at the Sunnyvale Public Library. Refreshments will be served and there will be copies of the book available for purchase and signing.

Dumas and her family moved to Southern California from Abadan, Iran, in 1972 and began a new life that included not only humorous experiences with American culture, but also serious prejudices after the Iranian revolution. Dumas wrote stories about these experiences for her children and these writings became Funny in Farsi. This book became a finalist for the PEN/USA award in Creative Non Fiction and was selected as the 2004 title for Orange County Reads One Book, a countywide book club in Southern California. Funny in Farsi has also been placed on the California Recommended Reading List for schools. Former United States President Jimmy Carter called this memoir “A humorous introspective chronicle of a life filled with love – of family, country and heritage.”

Sunnyvale Library is located at 665 West Olive Ave., across from City Hall. Free parking is always available, and VTA line 54 serves the Library. More information on the Firoozeh Dumas program is available on the Library’s Web site at www.sunnyvalelibrary.org, or by calling the Reference Desk at (408) 730-7300,  TDD (408) 730-7501.
